15 dead, 31 missing in Nepal landslides
No fewer than 15 people were killed by a landslide
in north-eastern Nepal on Thursday, with the toll expected to rise as
31 people remain buried under the rubble.
The officials said 15 bodies were recovered from the in the north-eastern district of Taplejung.
Landslides hit six villages in the district after
heavy monsoon rain fell on Wednesday. Part of the country was
destabilised by earthquakes in April and May.
No fewer than a dozen houses and two schools were
hit by the landslides and six suspension bridges were washed away by
swollen rivers.
“Ongoing rain is hampering rescue efforts,” police said.

than 8,700 people died in Nepal after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake on
April 25 and several aftershocks, including one of magnitude 7.3 on May
12.
