Manhunt launched after girl aged 14 is dragged into woodland and raped near tiny village
A manhunt is underway today after a teenage girl was dragged into woodland and brutally raped.
The 14-year-old was walking near the village of Herstmonceux in East Sussex when she was pounced on by a man who viciously attacked her before racing off.
Officers were today conducting door-to-door enquiries around the village as they now hunt for the attacker.
Detective Sergeant Suzy Joseph, of Sussex Police, said: "We are still trying to establish the circumstances with the victim and it is unclear at this stage whether she may have known the suspect.
"She is being looked after by specially trained officers.
"We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the victim go into the wooded area or the suspect.
"We will be increasing the number of police patrols in the area in the next few days and anyone who is concerned can speak to one of our officers."
Police described the attacker as white, aged around 17 or 18 years and 5 feet 9 inches tall, with black hair swept across his forehead and brown eyes.
He was wearing a white top, black jacket, and white shoes with a black bag across his chest, and he may have been driving a black BMW car.
The incident happened at around 6pm on Sunday.
