Nike MAG Power Laces from Back to the Future Part II are actually coming in 2015
Back to the Future II predicted back in the 1980s that by 2015 we'd have Nike trainers that could tie themselves up automatically. While some of the movie's predictions were slightly off (where are our hover cars?!), it looks like the Nike MAG Power Laces self-tying shoes that Marty McFly sported will indeed be making their way to stores in 2015.
Nike CEO Mark Parker has described the shoes shown in the 1989 sci-fi comedy the “greatest shoe never made”, but that looks set to change with Nike filing a US patent for self-lacing shoes in July 2014. The shoes are able to comfortably tie themselves up automatically once you've put them on. Could this mean that the future will be builder's bum-free? Let's hope so. In Back to the Future Part II Michael J Fox's character Marty McFly goes forward in time to 21 October 2015, so we're hoping we'll get our hands on a pair of Nike MAG Power Laces before that date. Back to the Future Perfect: Predictions it got rightWhen Back to the Future Part II was released way back in 1989 the year 2015 was portrayed as a futeristic wonderland with flying cars, 4D cinemas showing of Jaws 19 and tiny pizzas that could be placed into a Black & Decker Hydrator and turned into full-sized meals. Sadly (well apart from Jaws 19, no one wants that) these bold predictions didn't come true, but there were a few other examples of the film getting it pretty right. |
